A photographer who had never exhibited her work meets Sandra Davis, President of the WCA and decides to put together an entire photography exhibit dedicated to helping members of the trans and nonbinary community. How did she get models to photograph for a possibly dangerous assignment? How did she get other photographers to contribute? How were pictures, intended for youth, selected for the show? Who was going to display this? What was the impact? Join us to learn more about Gwen Andersen's project Becoming Ourselves which uses positive representation of trans and nonbinary (T/NB) adults and children to protect the mental health of T/NB children.

Bio: Gwen Andersen is both a photographer and a renewable energy specialist. Andersen has worked in international development for over 30 years and has just co-founded The A Energy Company which is continuing USAID’s work to electrify Africa. She began photography while in Mozambique in 2018. Her project Becoming Ourselves  has been shown in five churches in Maryland and Virginia, the Glen Echo Photoworks Gallery, and Third Space, a synagogue in Baltimore.
